Fuji displayed a mock up of the new camera at the prestigious Photokina trade fair in Cologne Germany. Even though they are still developing the camera, it is important for companies to have something new to show at these big occasions. There is no price and according to Fuji it will go on sale next year.
The metal and leather camera body exterior design adds to the retro look of the camera, with strong visual links to a classic Leica rangefinder camera. While the specifications of the Fuji FinePix X100 looks to be aimed at the Leica X1 in specification and even the model numbers have resonance. Both cameras have an APS-C sensor in a compact body with a fixed wide-angle lens of about 23mm focal length. There are generous maximum apertures, although the Fuji does better going a bit faster with f2 to the Leica’s f2.8.
